How should he approach this action without losing everything earned when wife did little financially to accumulate things and help in the marriage?

If you are in Florida, it doesn't really matter who contributed what to the assets and/or debts acquired during the marriage or whose name those assets or debts are in. Everything acquired or incurred during the marriage is considered a marital asset or debt and is subject to equitable distribution, which typically means 50/50. An attorney should be consulted though in order to best determine your potential rights and options, as well as how to proceed.

Is she entitled to half the equity if her name is on the deed?

By "she" I presume you mean your spouse. If her name was on the deed, and you held the home as a community asset, then she will be entitled to one-half of the community interest in the home, whether or not her name is on the deed.
