Kent P. Tierney has been practicing law for over 20 years. He specializes in the areas of Family Law, Real Estate, Civil Litigation, and Business Law. Mr. Tierney formed what is now Tierney Law Group in 2012 following more than 15 years of practice with several Bay Area law firms specializing in Civil Litigation. Mr. Tierney brings his unique personal experiences to the representation of his clients and is known for his no nonsense approach to cases. Mr. Tierney’s clients often compliment him for his straightforward demeanor and candid review of cases. His strengths are his knowledge of the law, fact-focused litigation style, and courtroom skills. Mr. Tierney has extensive trial experience with over 100 trials in his 20+ year career practicing law.

In Family Law, Mr. Tierney works on cases ranging from high net-worth to grey divorces, pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, domestic partnerships, negotiating and drafting complex marital property agreements, determination of spousal and child support, move-away cases, custody and visitation, adoptions, paternity proceedings, and domestic violence.
Mr. Tierney’s considerable experience in real estate litigation includes matters involving property disputes, partnership fights (including LLC members), breach of contract, (including breach of lease), real property partition, quiet title, specific performance, lis pendens, neighbor issues (boundaries, easements, trees), breach of fiduciary duty, real estate and business fraud, landlord/tenant disputes (residential and commercial) and other lawsuits. Mr. Tierney is also on the approved panel for Real Estate Risk Management [RERM] providing real estate advice to a wide variety of real estate professionals.
Mr. Tierney’s in-depth and extensive experience in all aspects of civil litigation, dispute resolution, contracts, risk management and insurance offers clients expert capabilities for managing all risks for businesses in the most cost-effective way. Mr. Tierney consults with the client to develop winning strategies for issues concerning insurance coverage, including the review and analysis of insurance policies for defense and indemnity obligations; underlying claims; and negotiation and/or litigation.
Mr. Tierney obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from California State University Hayward (1990) and his Juris Doctorate (with honors) from San Francisco Law School (1996). Mr. Tierney is licensed to practice law in California, the United States District Courts in the Eastern District of California and Northern District of California.
