Should I tell my boss I got a DUI?

Answered by attorney Joshua James Price
DUI/DWI lawyer at Defending Rights Law Center
Not unless your employment guidelines and/or contract require you to. If no requirement and it does not affect your job or was in the course of your job duties, I would leave it alone. So the answer is: it depends. You never want to divulge more information than you have to. Also, just because you were arrested does not mean you are guilty of DUI...so if no conviction, then no DUI yet.

Only the judge will know the final sentence, but I suspect it will be in the nighborhood of 7-10 years in prison.

I got a DUI now what do I do?

DUI carries up to one year in jail and fines. You are always entitled to represent yourself in court. Whether you should is a different issue. The conventional wisdom is that an attorney will be able to do a better job and get a better outcome. Prosecutors and judges don't like dealing with Prospers, unless you are simply pleading guilty, not defending the case.
