You should sit down with your lawyer and ask for a detailed statement showing the hours worked on your case in detail.  You have the right to fire your lawyer and hire any new lawyer that you choose. There are many reasons why legal fees in a divorce can be very high, including extensive discovery, motion hearings, mediations, etc. All this can drive up the cost. You  need to have a frank discussion with your lawyer about fees and make sure your lawyer understands your concerns and ability to pay.

If the orders state that the spousal maintenance amount is non-modifiable, then no he cannot change it. If however it does not say anything as to modifiability, the Court will treat it as modifiable and he will have to file a petition to seek to reduce his obligation. It would be worthwhile to discuss more of the facts with an attorney.

You can go to flcourts.orgto find forms, you can get an appointment with the legal aid society in your area. You will probably have to hire an attorney. The filing fee is over $400. If you do not have the money, and cannot save it up to pay an attorney, you can try to do it yourself. With a 21 year marriage, you might even be able to get some form of alimony. If you were separated for over 16 years, is the daughter his child? The best thing to do is set up an appointment with an attorney in your area. Many are giving free initial consultations now.
