Is it true that a petiton for nondisclosure will prevent employers from seeing my criminal background?

If you successfully completed deferred, had no intervening cases, and more than 5 years has passed since your release from deferred, the you should definitely hire a lawyer and file a petition for nondisclosure. You are correct in that the case will be hidden from view of the general public. The filing fee is under $300 and you can probably find a lawyer for around $750.

Can my attorney charge me extra if I got a deferred adjudicated probation?

That's what happens when you hire crap lawyers. What does your contract say? No contract? Well, you can simply refuse to pay any additional money because there is nothing the lawyer can do about it and it sounds like bunk to me. Makes no sense that he wants you to pay more because he failed to get your case dismissed. You get what you pay for.

Did the officer have the right to search my vehicle if there was nothing illegal in sight?

Search and seizure is very fact specific and you need to see what the offer is going to say happened. Hire a good drug trial attorney and fight it with everything you got.
