What can I do if I was accused and arrested of stealing a vehicle?

If you are accused and not charged, at this point you can not help your case by talking. Hire an attorney. If you get re-arrested, tell the police you do not want to talk unless you have an attorney present. Make sure they understand you want an attorney, not just to remain silent (they are two separate rights with two separate requirements for the police). And don't talk to the police, regardless of what they say. At this point you can only harm yourself by "explaining."

If the store caught me shoplifting an item less than $50, can the store ask me to pay them $400 for it?

Do not pay anything now. You may be asked to pay restitution by the court if you plead no contest or guilty . The civil collection letter may keep coming , just ignore it.

If your child has been violated can the officer and child advocate keep you out of the room during questioning?

In SC, it is likely that it is OK for them to keep you out of the room when questioning the child regarding these matters. A lot of times, there is a questioning room with a one way mirror so that you can see in and hear but the child cannot see you. One of the main concerns in a lot of these matters is that the presence of the parent in the room might in some way influence the interview with the child. You should consult with a local attorney regarding this matter as soon as possible.
