What do I do to get a green card that is from b1/b2 or even a work permit?

Answered by attorney Lynne Rogers Feldman
Immigration lawyer at Feldman Feldman Associates, PC
You need an attorney to assess what you might be eligible for. An asylum case must be filed within one year of entering the U.S. Most other green card cases require you to have maintained your legal status.

Can I still sponsor my husband if I have a criminal record and it’s been 10 years?

I am assuming that you are a U.S. citizen. Generally, the petitioner's criminal history would not play a part in the immigration process. However, there are some exceptions, such as domestic violence convictions, crimes against children, some sex crimes, etc. Without knowing the nature of the felonies, it is impossible for me, or any other attorney, to give you a completely accurate answer. I strongly suggest that you contact an experienced immigration attorney for a face-to-face consultation and give him/her all of the facts surrounding your situation. (S)he would then be in a better position to analyze your case, advise you of your options and, if possible, make sure that the necessary paperwork and documentation is properly presented so as not to delay the process.

When an illegal immigrant applies for food stamps, will it affect his ability to become a permanent resident?

Answered by attorney Lynne Rogers Feldman
Immigration lawyer at Feldman Feldman Associates, PC
At the time you apply for him you must show he will not be a public charge. If your income is not sufficient you will need to obtain a co-sponsor. Food stamps is an indication you may not have the means to support him by yourself but would not mean an automatic denial if the co-sponsor's income is enough.
