Yes. You can file both at the same time. But there could be issues with preconceived intent. Be careful. Consult with a very experienced immigration lawyer.

Can I stop going to school as we file the necessary documents or am I required to stay in school until after my visa status is changed?

Justin Wang

If you are certain to file 130/485 with the Immigration Service soon after you get married, you don't have to keep your student status. You can still adjust your status to permanent resident even if you are out of status.

Answered by attorney Jennifer Maude Oltarsh
Immigration lawyer at Oltarsh & Associates, P.C.
If your husband is abusive, you should not remain in such a relationship. You can file a self-petition. It will be a question of proof, however. Contact us if you are seeking help from an attorney. I have been practicing for over 15 years. Our immigration law firm has been in the immigration field for more than 45 years. We have handled cases with experience, integrity, and good effect. Please call me. We offer payment plans with no interest.
