Does having a valid social security number make me a US resident?

Justin Wang

No. A valid SS number does not make you a resident. Many aliens have SS number for various reasons. Their SS card will have a notation stating it is valid for employment ONLY with DHS authorization. You should know if you have a valid immigration status in the US. When and how did you come to the US? Are your parents US citizens? Have you ever applied for immigration benefits? Have you received any immigration benefits or relief? Do you have any immigration application/petition pending? If you can answer these questions, you will probably know your immigration status in the US.

How can I get a K1 visa?

Brian D. Lerner
Answered by attorney Brian D. Lerner (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at Law Offices of Brian D. Lerner
A Fiance Petition needs to be prepared. This is a petition that will allow your fiance to come to the U.S. in a relatively short period of time. Usually, it takes around 6 to 9 months for the petition to be approved at immigration in the United States. Subsequently, the approval would be sent to the U.S. Consulate or Embassy in your fianc?e's home country. When your fiance comes to the U.S., you will have ninety days to get married. Our firm can prepare the entire Fiance Petition and make it so it goes smoothly and correctly. You have to have physically seen your Fiance in the last two years. You must meet in person. However, it is possible under certain circumstances to get a Waiver of that requirement.

What are the chances of my boyfriend becoming legal if he illegally came to the United States?

Your question requires an attorney consultation. It is not a simple question that can be answered on this type of forum. There are many factors that would need to be considered and evaluated. Much will depend on what grounds or qualifications he has to immigrate to the U.S. I strongly suggest that you or your boyfriend contact an experienced immigration attorney for a face-to-face consultation and give him/her all of the facts surrounding your boyfriend's situation.
