How much money do I need to fix my mother's papers if I am a US citizen and she's been here in the US for over 20 years?

The filing fee is about $1490 and if you hire a lawyer, the lawyer's fees are usually more than that. You need proof she's your mother, such as your birth certificate and proof of her legal entry. You also need your tax return and there are many other documents and forms.

Answered by attorney Alena Shautsova

There is no method without getting married. Only, if she finds a job in the US and the employer sponsors her, but it takes long time and she has to meet various qualifications.

If I got a summon for failing to file income tax and I complied with it, paid the fine can this prevent me from citizenship approval?

As long as you have made arrangements with the IRS and have paid or are paying any due tax amount, it will not prevent you from being approved for US citizenship assuming you are otherwise eligible and pass the civics exam.
