Can I appeal if I feel very strongly that I was wrongly convicted of DUI?

Answered by attorney Evan Austin Watson
DUI/DWI lawyer at Zeliff Watson Attorneys at Law
You have the right to appeal a criminal conviction in Georgia. The proper procedure depends on the particular court your conviction was in. You can expect to hire an appeals lawyer- attempting an appeal by yourself is very difficult.

You can be sentenced anywhere from probation to the maximum sentence allowed under the ordinance or statute. You need to retain an attorney who handles criminal case.

What happens if my attorney withdraws from my case because I missed a court date?

Do not call the DA's office. Either your present attorney or your new attorney should make that call. Your attorney should not be able to withdraw from the case without notice to you. Check with the criminal clerks office to see if he has really been withdrawn. Then call your attorney and have a frank discussion with him about representing you or refunding your retainer.
