No. You can be charged with the crime of DUI even if taking prescribed medication. The issue is whether or not you were operating a motor vehicle while under the influence. Whether it is a prescription or not is immaterial. The fact that you have been charged 8 times already, indicates to me that you have a substantial problem and should never be driving. With that kind of DUI history, I am surprised that you have npot been charged with a felony DUI.

You must go and have your license renewed, the same as If you had your physical license on your person. You can also get a new physical license IF you explain that you lost your license. If when the case is over you lose, you need to return over your new physical license, and not drive.

If I'm going to plead guilty to a DUI, do I need an attorney?

Most courts will not allow you to proceed without a lawyer unless you are able to demonstrate the ability to represent yourself properly. Moreover, if you plead guilty without having a lawyer review the case, you will never know if it is defensible.
