If we agree on everything, can we use the same lawyer in a divorce?

Yes, It would be a dissolution; If at any point you do not agree on any items, such as child support, you would need your own lawyer. Also if you use the same lawyer, remember that lawyer only represents one of you, the other would be required to sign a waiver to that effect.

Can I ask for spousal support if I have been separated for almost eleven years?

Answered by attorney Steven Jed Alpers (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Steven J. Alpers, A Professional Corporation
The court in CA is unlikely to grant support. The purpose of support is to help you set up a new life. Since you have been out of the relationship 11 years, temporary support would normally not be available to you that usually only lasts about 1/3rd the marriage unless you were together over 10 years.

Can a supported spouse be compelled to take social security at 62 or an annuity from employment to reduce the payor's obligation?

Answered by attorney Loren Paul Zahn (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Zahn Law Office
Neither party can be forced to do anything, but the court can impute the amount they can receive into the support calculation, although I have never seen the court be asked to do that with social security or an annuity. Cohabitation is a factor in support, as well as assets.
