What do I do if I get a letter to sign a qualified domestic relations order?

A QDRO is required to divide an interest in a pension or other retirement asset, telling the plan administrator how to split the payments. If a retirement asset was awarded to your ex-wife, either in whole or in part, a QDRO is not optional, but you should have an attorney review it before signing, as there are different ways of calculating the distributions and you don't want to pay more than necessary.

Can I ask for alimony if I haven't been married for 2 years yet?

Divorce lawyer at Diane L. Berger
Each jurisdiction is different, but it is doubtful you would receive alimony for a very short marriage unless there was a huge disparity in income and you received it for a very short period of time.
