Can my ex-husband kick me out of the house that we both own?

default-avatar
Answered by attorney Ronald L Bornstein (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Ronald Bornstein, Attorney at Law
You don't really provide enough information about your situation to be able to answer your question. Generally, if you are a joint owner, your rights with respect to the house are the same as any other owner's rights, unless your ownership share is smaller, or there is a contract, agreement, court order or other legal document that provides otherwise. If he is your ex-husband, it is unclear why you both still own the house together, but you should speak with an attorney to clarify what your rights regarding the house are.

Who keeps the engagement ring?

The case law on this subject is muddy. But basically, I believe since he broke off the engagement, you get to keep the ring.

What can I do to end spousal support?

Answered by attorney Julie Anne Ringquist (Unclaimed Profile)
Divorce lawyer at Law Office of Julie A. Ringquist
A substantial change in circumstances, such as a large decrease in income at retirement, is cause for a new hearing to modify (lessen or terminate) the spousal support (unless your Judgment says that support SHALL TERMINATE automatically at age 62).
