How long can charges be held on someone for theft of 2 firearms in Liberty County Texas before it is brought before the Grand Jury or dismissed?

Answered by attorney Mark R. Thiessen
Criminal Law lawyer at Thiessen Law Firm
Statute of limitations is two years to file a charge. And there is no remedy if everything is dismissed. It's called sovereign immunity. Unless someone was lying and you can prove it.

Can I date someone older than me if I am 17?

Answered by attorney Mark R. Thiessen
Criminal Law lawyer at Thiessen Law Firm
In Texas, 17 is legal for anyone up to whatever 99 and up. The three year rule is only for kids under 17. But better listen to mama. Don't want her causing you any trouble. But usually it's the parents who call the police, so if she doesn't then you should be cool.

Hi…. I would like to know what will be the consequences for first offense shoplifting for value worth $850. Arrested and have a court date.

Answered by attorney Tristan Nicolas Legrande
Criminal Law lawyer at LeGrande Law
If you are convicted of theft of a value $750 - $2500 it is a class A misdemeanor, it is punishable by up to a year in jail, and up to a $4000 fine. A theft conviction on your record could also cause you to lose job and educational opportunities. A lawyer can help you avoid those consequences. In many instances we have been able to even get theft charges dismissed (after the client compliee with some conditions). Many of us offer free phone consults during business hours. Good luck.
