Can I have my domestic battery misdemeanor sealed?

Jared Clayton Austin
Answered by attorney Jared Clayton Austin (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Austin Legal Services, PLC
If it is a state conviction, then you should be eligible to apply to have it expunged or set aside. Consult with an attorney in your area with experience in expungemenas. It cannot be sealed and government pardons are very rare so applying for the expungement is your best option.

What should I do if I was caught stealing and signed a civil demand in the store?

Do absolutely nothing. If they haven't contacted you, why would you contact them? Doing that could only make them start harassing you for money. If the police weren't called and the store or their representative hasn't contacted you, do nothing. Even if they do send you a civil demand letter, the overwhelming opinion from many online sources is to ignore their demands. Why? Because they almost never do anything if you ignore their letters. They won't sue for such a small amount, especially since they already got their stuff back.
