Does a subpoena that says State of Texas vs. Defendant mean the state is filing charges on him and would it probably happen to me?

Answered by attorney Robert W. Eutsler (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Eutsler Law Firm
Charges are already filed against both of you. That's what the tickets signify. Since these are criminal charges (assault in the form of an unwanted touching with jurisdiction in either a JP or municipal court), the State is the entity that prosecutes the crime. The subpoena is because you and possibly your boyfriend asked for a trial. In response to the trial setting, the state issued a subpoena for the other person because it needs a witness who can testify to prove its case.

How should I answer a job application question when I was charged with stealing but it was amended?

Answered by attorney H. Matthew Vititoe
Criminal Law lawyer at Law Office of Matt Vititoe
If the application asks whether you we're convicted of stealing or not, then you can truthfully answer "no". If it asks whether you were arrested or charged, you must indicate that you were.

If your friend does not have money to hire an attorney, or family or friends to help him out with that, he'll have to ask the court to appoint him an attorney.
