I imagine that by the time you get to court the police report will have a valid reason for the stop. However, to answer your question, no, the police cannot stop you for no reason. The only exception is a road block where they are stopping all cars for sobriety checks. You should have an attorney who should challenge that stop.

If you were charged with a new offense you certainly have a defense. If not, there is little to be done other than filing a claim against the police department, or registering a complaint against the involved officers.

People make the mistake all the time thinking that just because they know that they are innocent that everyone else will understand it that same way and they will be exonerated. The law has specific definitions and there is a thing called "constructive possession" whereby if a person has dominion and control over an item, they can be legal held to be in possession of that item. A gun charge is very serious and should be handled very carefully by an experienced attorney. Make sure that you either hire one or if you cannot afford one, ask the court to appoint one for you. DO NOT TAKE THIS LIGHTLY!
