If a store decides to drop my theft charges will this still show up on my record?

Cynthia Russell Henley
Answered by attorney Cynthia Russell Henley (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Cynthia Henley
It is not up to the store on whether charges are dropped, although the CEO's request for dismissal would likely carry great weight. If find it very odd to believe that the store would recommed dismissal, though. That is not the norm at all. If it is dismissed, to get the charge off your record you would need to hire a lawyer and file a petition for expunction in civil district court.

How will the charges affect their future and does pleading no contest mean they agree to the police report?

Answered by attorney Mark R. Thiessen
Criminal Law lawyer at Thiessen Law Firm
You absolutely need to hire an attorney. And hire the best you can afford. His future is on the line. Pleading no contest, the Judge can still find you guilty and sentence you to time. You absolutely need an attorney walking you through this. Both are serious charges that could affect the rest of his life.

Is it legitimate to miss court hearing because of medical reasons?

Answered by attorney Mark R. Thiessen
Criminal Law lawyer at Thiessen Law Firm
Yes, but when you get out, you need to bring medical proof to that Court so they don't issue a warrant for your arrest.
