How do I go about dealing with this theft charge?

You have caused and compounded your problems and should expect to hire an attorney to minimize the damages. There will be a warrant out for your arrest - get an attorney and take care of this now. If you come to the attention of the authorities chances are very high they will immediately take you to jail.

Yes, you should get an attorney whenever you are charged. I premise that it is not a matter that you cannot afford an attorney, I believe the reality is that you cannot, over the long run, not afford to not have one. Its your life!
