Can I file bankruptcy on accounts that I know are scams?

Giovanni Orantes
Answered by attorney Giovanni Orantes (Unclaimed Profile)
Bankruptcy lawyer at Orantes Law Firm
Not quite. When you file for bankruptcy protection, you must list all of your debts, without omission, and they will be discharged. However, nothing prevents you from continuing to pay whatever debts you want to pay after you file for bankruptcy protection, but you no longer have legal liability to do so.

It may be about 3 or 4 years before you can buy another house, but that is completely up to the lender. Some lenders may still not do it.

Do you have to reaffirm mortgages to get refinanced?

No, this is a lie that ignorant and unqualified individuals working for your mortgage company will tell you. What the lender is really saying is that it won?t refinance you, so look somewhere else for a new loan.
