Ms. Smith has over 20 years of experience representing creditors, debtors, trustees and creditors committees in all aspects of commercial insolvency, both in and out of bankruptcy. Ms. Smith's practice areas include commercial bankruptcy, commercial litigation, secured transactions, real property, intellectual property (IP) licensing, mediation, early neutral evaluation, and appellate work. Ms. Smith has substantial experience in a number of areas, including protecting intellectual property rights in bankruptcy, secured transactions, negotiating complex plans of reorganization, and defending avoidance actions by trustees.
Ms. Smith's clients include companies of all size, privately held businesses, publically traded companies, high-net worth individuals, entrepreneurs, and developers. Ms. Smith has also represented one of the world's largest search-engine providers in bankruptcy cases throughout the country, including defending preference actions and claims objections, collecting administrative claims, and negotiating terms for post-petition services.
Before joining Binder & Malter LLP, Ms. Smith was part of the IP licensing division at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, where she negotiated and drafted intellectual property licenses and related joint-venture agreements. Ms. Smith was also a partner at the law firm of Rosenblum Parish & Isaacs, P.C., where she represented trustees, creditors, and creditors' committees in bankruptcy proceedings
