I had serious problems with my ex-husband in enforcing the marriage settlement agreement. I had terminated services of the attorney who handled my divorce-- she was horrible. I called several attorneys when my ex-husband was supposed to pay all my spousal support with the sale of our house, and was refusing to do so. Some attorneys wouldn't talk to me, one wanted an $8,000 retainer before he would talk to me. Greg Abel was FABULOUS. I got an emergency appointment right away.

I hired Mr. Abel to represent me in my divorce. My spouse decided to represent herself. This led Mr. Abel to err on the side of caution (as he explained it to me) when providing her with documents, information, etc., which at times made me feel as though he was representing her best interest more than he was mine. It is my belief that Mr. Abel has personal biases that effect his ability to remain professional if you have flaws of character that he finds distasteful. This led to me not receiving the maximum benefits from my divorce that I more than likely could have had I gone with a different lawyer. He constantly asked for continuances, even when there appeared to be no logical reason to do so. He would return phone calls but was rarely the one to initiate them and when I pay someone well over $20,000.00 to handle a divorce that my ex did on her own, I expect for them to have at least attended the class on good communication skills and not be so smug as to think it was beneath them.

Although he protected my custodial rights, I would say that this attorney cares NOTHING about his clients. My case is a long and complex one that has taken me 20 years to recover financially from. Toward the end of the case, he went beyond his retainer without telling me (countless days in court pews without our case being heard, being charged repeatedly for the court prep, the time in court, the continuance, paying again for all of the above over and over, draining the till). He hounded me so hard for his money that I had nightmares of him taking my children as collateral. When I told him that, he stopped contacting me. If you want to fear your attorney and worry that he may take your kids if you don’t pay him, then he is your guy. Very poor character with zero empathy.
