KAREN M. PLATT was born in Brooklyn, New York. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with high honors from the University of Maryland. She received a Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Maryland in 1974.
Karen Platt studied anatomy and physiology. She participated in two years of clinical training, including working with a multi-disciplinary team at Walter Reed Army Hospital. During her tenure at Walter Reed, she worked with brain injured adults, cancer survivors and the physically impaired.
Karen Platt received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1984. She is a member of the Wisconsin Bar and the California Bar. She holds honors from Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi. Her areas of expertise include personal injury, government entity liability, insurance coverage, and product liability.
Karen Platt began her legal career with the Collins and Zapala defense firm in San Jose, California. Her work included insurance coverage issues, personal injury, real estate, fraud, landslide and subsidence, property damage, business disputes, police misconduct, and contract dispute cases.
In 1990, Karen Platt also made a pivotal career choice. She decided to devote her law practice to helping injured people, and joined the Law Offices of Boris E. Efron as an associate litigation attorney. She became a partner in 1998.
Karen Platt has jury trial experience for plaintiffs and defendants. She has participated in hundreds of judicial and binding arbitrations. She serves as a judicially appointed arbitrator for the San Mateo and Santa Clara County Superior Courts. Karen Platt’s primary areas of practice are catastrophic injury, insurance coverage, and product liability. She takes a very balanced, practical and pragmatic approach to dispute resolution.
