Leon Matchin decided early on that he wanted to be an attorney, and his uncle’s career as a prosecutor and later a respected defense lawyer helped cement that goal. Leon graduated cum laude from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1998 and began Seton Hall University School of Law in Newark that same year as a part-time student. While attending night classes, he worked full-time at a law firm in Elizabeth, New Jersey, an arrangement that allowed him to gain real-world experience while building the foundation for his legal career. For four years, he balanced work and school, learning firsthand how cases are evaluated, prepared, and managed from start to finish. He earned his J.D. from Seton Hall in 2002 and opened his own practice immediately after becoming licensed. Leon never practiced under someone else. At 26, he took the leap and “hung his shingle,” confident that his years of hands-on training had prepared himself to represent clients directly. Leon still runs his own practice today, appearing in court and defending people charged with criminal offenses, DUI, and a wide range of traffic matters.
