Kristen (Vander-Plas) LaFreniere, owner and manager of Vander-Plas LaFreniere, PLLC in Lubbock, Texas, is a proud West Texan who was born and raised in Lubbock. She earned highest honors at Lubbock Christian University before graduating from Texas Tech University School of Law. Following law school, Kristen served as briefing attorney to Justice Don R. Willett at the Supreme Court of Texas, then returned home to launch her practice. Today she provides comprehensive legal services in business law, civil litigation, business counseling, estate planning, probate, and civil appeals. Active in the State Bar of Texas, she edits The Advocate for the Litigation Section and recently served as editor of The Appellate Advocate. In addition to her full-time practice, Kristen teaches business law at Lubbock Christian University, coaches moot-court teams at Texas Tech Law, and co-teaches pre-law and mock-trial classes at the Talkington School for Young Women Leaders. She lives in Lubbock with her husband, David, and their spirited puppy, Copper PAWfreniere.

Kristen is a breathe of fresh air. I have worked with a handful of lawyers in times past and have often felt as if I were on another planet, in the sense that different languages were being spoken. Kristen took the time to hear our matter thoroughly and then went above and beyond in explaining in layman's terms. Kristen showcases a down to earth personality that takes away the often intimidating experience legal matters can be. We highly recommend Kristen to anyone needing legal services!

I needed an attorney to guide me through the probate of my father's will and estate. My daughter contacted an old college friend for a recommendation and Kristen was recommended as the best of the best. I took my papers and questions to Kristen and we discussed the needs going forward. Then I learned that my father had an insurance policy that included the same service and had two possible attorneys in the area that i could use. Kristen was understanding that I (and my brother) would use the prepaid service. Later, I had a couple of houses that it appeared would need legal service to get back to my possession so that I could eventually sell them and recoup my investments. These are the issues that are being addressed currently.
