Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP was founded October 1, 1973 by the merger of two existing Binghamton law firms. Its predecessor firms date back to the 1890s. It represents one of the oldest multi-service law firms in the Southern Tier of New York. The Binghamton Labor and Employment Law Firm of Twining, Nemia & Steflik merged into Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP in January of 1999. The attorneys of Pearis, Kline & Barber of Binghamton became "Of Counsel" to the firm on January 1, 2007. The Ithaca law office of Jonathan O. Albanese joined Coughlin & Gerhart, L.L.P. on May 1, 2009. The firm's general civil practice is conducted throughout the State and Federal Courts at both the trial and appellate levels. Its lawyers are active in the Broome County, New York State and American Bar Associations, and its past and present partners include bar association officers and community leaders. The lawyers of the firm participate in a wide variety of community services, pro bono work, and take part in civic and charitable activities. Went to Coughlin and Gerhardt in 2010-11 to represent me for Social Security Disability during the time of also having 15 outpatient procedures from 2009 to 2015. I can see how my first time applying I was denied, because I only knew of the diagnosis of osteoarthritis in my knees and Graves disease. Then I was told to change my primary care physician so in 2016 I did. I received a notice in 2014 on the day of my dad's funeral that I was past the five years of being unemployed. I tried to reapply by 2017 because in 2016 I found out that I was born with Spina bifida oculta (no S1), Chiari malformation type 1 and a herniated T12 and a large bulging C6 and spurring C7. When I reapplied in 2017, I got called into my Lawyers office and told that because my preexisting conditions were not found until after 2014 that none of those diagnosis would apply, that I should withdraw from my case. So I did. I'm still not working. If my mom passes away I will be financially destitute, homeless. Thanks.

Hired Attorney Dirk A. Galbraith

Called to seek an opinion regarding law particular to Dirk's specialty. While I found the lawyer was quick to return my phone call, he was curt and dismissive to the point of being obnoxiously rude. I did not feel that any adequate care was given to understand or address my concerns. This was surprising considering that I was a client of the firm and came with a recommendation. Would be interesting to see if new clients are treated with the same belittling attitude. I would not recommend that anyone seek counsel with this particular lawyer; maybe another one within the firm.

Hired Attorney Zachary D. Morahan

Thought it was great they opened a new office in Honesdale, PA since that is close to my home. Turns out there is only one lawyer there, a young fellow Zachary Morahan, and he can't be bothered to help me. This was after I spent time explaining my case to a legal assistant Jordan there, who told me that there are no free consultations, and to see the lawyer would cost $380 per hour! My real estate case should be simple for an experienced lawyer, but I got a call back the next morning from the same legal assistant saying, His Highness did not want my case. Total waste of time. At first she wanted me to pay for an intro meeting to come see him, then he would have taken my money before saying he didn't want my case, so I guess it could have been worse.

Hired Attorney Robert J. Madigan Jr.

Perhaps one of the worst lawyers in the country. He takes peoples money and destroys families. Do not use him for a Will or Estate Planning...he is uncommunicative, lies to judges and is not a good person.
