Can an attorney help make my immigration petition go faster?

Answered by attorney Louis M. Piscopo
Immigration lawyer at Law Offices of Louis M. Piscopo, APLC
Without knowing what country you were born in, your age, your marital status, whether your mother is a US Citizen or a Green Card holder I cannot determine how long you will have to wait for your Green Card. While a law firm can certainly help to ensure that your case is approved quickly, how long you will have to wait depends on your priority date (the date the petition was filed), your immigrant category, what country you are from.

The only way to change her status is for you as the US citizen to petition for her as you wife. Otherwise she has to renew her tourist visa to travel. Good luck.

If you are otherwise eligible to naturalize, you can file N-400 application any time after 4 years and 9 months from the date your permanent residence began (it is marked on your green card: "Permanent resident since [date]").
