What do I need to get the fiancee visa?

Answered by attorney David Nabow Soloway
Immigration lawyer at Kennedy, Nalepa & Soloway, P.C.
To get a fianc visa, one should file an application for a K-1 visa and be prepared to show the genuine nature of the plan to become married after the boyfriend enters the U.S. to marry his U.S. Citizen fiance. It would be wise to engage an immigration attorney to assist with the many details that will lead to success with the fianc visa and to success with the subsequent adjustment of status application (by which the soon-to-be husband will become a Lawful Permanent Resident (get a "Green Card"). Some immigration law firms, including mine, offer legal services on a "flat fee" basis so that a client will know the total expense from the very beginning, and a few immigration law firms, including mine, offer an initial consultation free of charge.
