How long do I need to live in the United States to apply for residency?

Christine Victoria Troy
Answered by attorney Christine Victoria Troy (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at The Law Office of Christine Troy
There is no time limit. If you have no status in the US, it is very difficult to obtain a green card. If you are married to a USC, have an asylum claim that is timely filed, were a victim of a crime, this person may be able to file now. However since you are out of status in the US, you need to have a full consult with a competent immigration attorney to ensure that you are not barred from applying and that you choose the option that is best for your situation.

Can an alien without ssn get a divorce from a none cooperating US citizen in tx?

Answered by attorney Violet Ikeanyi Nwokoye (Unclaimed Profile)
Immigration lawyer at The Nwokoye Law Firm
You will need to either hire an attorney here in Texas or NY or you can file for divorce yourself in Texas if you or your wife has resided here for 6 months or more. She will need to be served with the divorce papers and proceed from there. Since it does not appear that it will be an agreed divorce, it might require some professional help, however, a social security # is not one of the requirements for a divorce in Texas.
