My wife and I were being audited, that is a letter you don't want to get. My husband and I have a business and we'd gotten behind on our payroll taxes after hurricane Matthew. Our business went down and we just didn't have the money to pay the IRS and keep the business going. The IRS had seized our accounts receivable and we were all but out of business. I was self-employed for a number of years and missed some quarterly tax payments and over the course of 3 years ended up owing over $90k. I felt relief after my first conversation and they ended up getting over $21k of the debt wiped out and I can afford the agreement they negotiated.

I would have given J. David five stars but I thought my IRS offer in compromise would be a couple hundred dollars. It ended up being almost $900. I am not really complaining since they wiped out $19,286 that I owed to the IRS and left me paying the 900. I just did not want to pay the IRS anything since I don't think they deserve it.
