About Mr. Carlos A. Ryerson

Carlos A. Ryerson has more than fifty years of experience helping clients structure, negotiate, and protect business ventures in the United States and around the world, with a long-standing focus on Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean Basin. He is the Director and President of Ryerson & Associates, P.C., Attorneys and Counselors, and he’s known for combining practical deal-making with a clear understanding of how government, regulation, and industry realities shape cross-border work—especially in the energy sector. Over the years, he has developed trusted relationships with leading lawyers and business decision-makers across Latin America, along with strong connections to government ministries, agencies, and energy officials. His matters have ranged from major infrastructure and energy projects to complex disputes, including advising on a $2.5 billion natural gas purchase agreement involving Pemex and the Mexican government and the construction and equipping of related gas transmission infrastructure. He has also represented clients in power purchase and sale arrangements with CFE, handled sensitive extradition issues, managed international arbitration matters, and guided multinational companies through high-stakes litigation. His regional experience includes work tied to Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize, Bolivia, and other jurisdictions. Mr. Ryerson has also expanded his professional footprint to China, Singapore, and other Pacific Rim countries, building durable business and professional associations. Before leading his firm for the past twenty years, he served as senior counsel in Jackson Walker’s International Energy Section, worked at Enron on power and energy development in the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, and helped government agencies with electric-sector privatization and regulatory drafting. He began his legal career at Baker & Botts in 1974. His broader practice touches joint ventures, M&A, project finance, regulatory compliance, IP and licensing, immigration and aviation matters and global dispute management. He remains active as a joint venture partner and as Rector of Albert Schweitzer University.
