Grandmother managing my life insurance money.

Answered by attorney Terry Lynn Garrett
Estate Planning lawyer at The Garrett Law Firm, PLLC
If she is the trustee, managing the money until you are 22, she has a duty to put your interest first:  to save or very conservatively invest the money and not spend it.  Whether knowing this will calm your fears is another question.

What will my tax obligation be on an inherited home?

Answered by attorney David Goldman
Estate Planning lawyer at Law Office of David M. Goldman PLLC
It depends on where you live and what the tax laws are at the time she dies. In addition, it can make a difference how she adds your name. Often the best way (but not always) is to use an enhanced life estate deed so you get a stepped up basis. You should discuss the specifics with an attorney and CPA who can advise you on your specific circumstances.

How do I buy my mother's house after she died without a will?

Answered by attorney Jay William Moreland (Unclaimed Profile)
Estate Planning lawyer at Jay W. Moreland, P.A.
You need to set up an appointment with an attorney. It is likely that the home was your mother's homestead. If so, you would need a court order that establishes that. The homestead passes by operation of law to your mother's heirs (likely you and your sister). If it is not homestead, the property will have to pass through her estate to you and your sister. In either case you will need an attorney to help you with this. Once the property is in your name and your sister's name, the credit union should be willing to deal with you.
