The trustee of the trust would have the original document but, unlike wills, Trusts are not public documents, at least not until they become a matter of public record for whatever reason. If your mother does not have the mental capacity to give you permission to see her trust and the trustee won't let you see the trust without that, you might consider having yourself appointed a guardian of the person and conservator of the estate of your mother. This could be expensive and is a court proceeding that would require the assistance of an attorney.

No, and joint bank accounts can create lots of problems in estate planning. Without reviewing your Power of Attorney (was it prepared by a lawyer?) I'll say that we run into this from banks a lot. Try this: tell the bank staff that if they won't honor your power of attorney, you'll withdraw your money and go find a bank that will.

There is no one that legally has any authority to do ANYTHING, at this point. I would contact the police and have them go to the house with the son and his mother to retrieve his personal items. Beyond that, a probate estate needs to be opened and a personal representative appointed. If there is a Will, it should direct who that person will be. If there is no Will, then any interested person can apply to be PR, including your girlfriend.
