Can the police lie about my tag lights so they can pull me over for no reason?

No, they are not supposed to lie about that. If the video doesn't exist, if may be difficult to prove but you can try. Get an aggressive criminal defense attorney and one that specializes in 1983 civil suits on your side.

Can a person do jail time instead of DUI classes and fees?

Hudson Thomas Bair
Answered by attorney Hudson Thomas Bair (Unclaimed Profile)
DUI/DWI lawyer at Kapsack & Bair, LLP
That is a question to ask at sentencing. I know that some of the fines can be converted into jail but some must be paid, the Judge will know how you can work that part out. The DUI school is required if you receive a DUI, a Judge may waive it but the DMV won't, if you were convicted of a DUI.

Is there any number of years that can go by for my DUI to no longer matter?

In Michigan a OWI (DUI) will stay with you forever. As to your license and driving privilege, if that was your only offense for Owi you may be eligible for reinstatement of your license. Contact the Secretary of State and request a copy of your Master Driving Record and the Michigan Driver's License Appeal Division they will tell you what you need to do to obtain a valid operator's permit.
