Criminal defense attorney Tim Powers graduated cum laude (Juris Doctor) from Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans and holds a master’s degree in business administration. He is currently the managing attorney of the Law Offices of Tim Powers, which has Texas offices in Denton, McKinney, and Plano, and formerly an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at the University of North Texas in Denton.

A former Assistant District Attorney and Chief Misdemeanor Prosecutor, Powers was voted 1997 Denton County Prosecutor of the Year by the District Attorney’s staff . He has experience in over 40,000 DWI, drug, assault/family violence, divorce, and family law cases in North Texas. Tim Powers served as a legal intern at the Supreme Court of Oklahoma and former sitting Municipal Court Judge in Denton County. Tim Powers served briefly on the team of attorneys for a U.S. Presidential candidate, has represented numerous law enforcement professionals and local officials and is often consulted by Texas elected officials on criminal justice issues.

Powers is a current or former member of the College of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyer’s Association, the Texas Association of County and District Attorneys, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the New Orleans Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, the National College for DUI Defense, the Denton County Criminal Defense Attorney’s Association and the Denton County Bar Association among other professional organizations.

On a personal note, Tim has represented numerous entertainment personalities on various matters - not related to criminal cases - and has appeared on stage or in the studio with many groups, including Matchbox 20, Bowling for Soup, Dash Rip Rock, Jackson Browne, and Jelly Roll, among others. The group People on Vacation dedicated their third CD release to Tim, and it was titled The Chronicles of Tim Powers.

Hired Attorney

Mr. Powers is a Salesman, not an Attorney. He sold us on how he would personally represent our Son & once they processed our credit card he handed us off to a junior Attorney & he would not talk to us a again. our Son did not get good representation from the Jr. Atty & now has to live w/ the consequences. Do not trust this guy-- Big mistake. He should sell used cars!

Hired Attorney

After initial meeting, he never spoke with us again. Did not do all we paid him to do. Lied about the representation he would provide. Sent two different under qualified reps. to handle our case.
