You can file a police report and tell the police what you have indicated in your question. It will be up to them whether they will pursue it or not.

I sold a pair of sunglasses that I found at my apartment pool. What is the likelihood and consequences I will face criminal charges?

Answered by attorney Kenneth G. Wincorn
Criminal Law lawyer at Law Offices of Kenneth G. Wincorn & Associates, P.C.
The best answer if you are worried would be to ct them back and have them available for whomever is the rightful owner. You have a defense of abandoned property if no one claims them but it seems you will not be comfortable with this solution so it would be best to ease your conscience by taking no chances and doing the honorable thing.

What is the penalty for unknowingly cashing a stolen check?

Answered by attorney Mark R. Thiessen
Criminal Law lawyer at Thiessen Law Firm
Any warrant would have been for something not related to the check at all. Now regarding the check, you need to remain silent and go talk to an attorney before you say anything. Depending on the amount of the check, it could be a felony.
