What do I do if I am being sued by a contractor?

You need a civil lawyer, not criminal. What kind of civil lawyer depends on why you are being sued. Is it because he claims you owe him money; or because you injured him in some way; anyhow you would do best finding a lawyer who does general civil defense but one who has been involved in litigation with contractors would be the best. If you own a home and you have homeowners you can sometimes, if handled carefully, get the insurance company to supply you with a lawyer and they pick up the tab.
