Will shoplifting go on my permanent record if I pay the requested fine from their law firm?

Answered by attorney Randy Bryan Ligh (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Roper Ligh, LLC
Based on what you write, this will not go on your permanent record. You have not been arrested and/or formally charged by the prosecuting authority. This appears to be an attempt by the retailer to profit from this: the retailer suggests that its loss in this matter is $350 and wants you to pay it. I would be skeptical about this and the retailer's assurances.

Is there a conflict of interest if a DEA agent is married to the prosecuting attorney?

Jared Clayton Austin
Answered by attorney Jared Clayton Austin (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Austin Legal Services, PLC
That is not a conflict that could result in the case not being prosecuted. At most, the office would just make sure that a different prosecutor was handling the case but even that isn't necessary.

What legal steps can I take if my roommate stealing items?

Pius Joseph
Answered by attorney Pius Joseph (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Law Offices of Pius Joseph
You are in a difficult spot.Unless you can prove that he took and misappropriated the items it will be hard to prove theft. Also consent to use the items may be a defense. You may more likely have a civil claim. Your better option is to find alternate living options and pursue a small claims action against him.
