Do I have to plead not guilty to misdemeanor battery?

Answered by attorney Nathaniel D Shafer
Criminal Law lawyer at Natty Shafer Law
If you don't want this on your record, then yes, you should plead not guilty and fight the charges. Also, if the prosecutor does not dismiss the charges, ask the judge if you are eligible for a public defender. Depending on your income, you may be eligible for appointed counsel, which will make your chances of victory better.

Is there anyone willing to take a pro bono criminal case for my son?

William H Nebeker
Answered by attorney William H Nebeker (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Havens Law, LLC
I take cases at a reduced rate, I have not found an attorney that can match my rates. However, if the charge against your son is a felony he is entitled to representation and counsel will be appointed for him in the event he cannot afford it. I also set up affordable payment plans for my clients so that they can get representation without getting financially buried. Call or email to know your son's options moving forward.

How do I release charges on my boyfriend?

Gregory Casale
Answered by attorney Gregory Casale (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Gregory Casale, Attorney at Law
Once the police charge a person there is no opportunity for the victim to release or drop the charges. Only the District Attorney (DA) has that authority. However, there are things that you may be able to do to influence this outcome. Your boyfriend clearly needs an attorney. He should hire someone who is familiar with the court where he is charged and certainly licensed to practice in that state. All information and analysis provided herein is for Massachusetts law and Massachusetts cases, ONLY. If your matter or question involves the laws of another state please disregard this post and seek advice from an attorney licensed to practice law in the applicable state.
