Two counts of theft over $250 could make each count a felony. I would need to know more facts and see your BF's criminal history to determine what jail time he might receive.

How do I find a lawyer for little to no cost if i make a little to much for a public defender and can they tri me with out one if i cant afford one?

You should call around and ask some lawyers if they take payment plans.  Some lawyers will accept credit cards, down payments, or other fee structures that make it easier to get a lawyer working on your case.  Depending on what area you are in, there can be a wide variety of arrangements you can make for payments. If that does not work you might want to re-apply for a public defender and tell them who you have talked to and why you cannot afford to hire anyone.     There are also services like AVLF (The Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation) who may be able to point you in the right direction for getting someone to take your case pro-bono (free of charge).

As long as it takes to transport you from one state to the other, as long as you have time remaining on probation.
