Your son has the right to "lawyer up" before talking to cops. If they have information he was involved, they are seeking to include him, not exclude him. (And unless he was with you, you really do not know for sure if he was involved. I'm a parent, too, and it is just life.) You'd be better off to have him meet with a lawyer.
