Will the case be open forever until I would accept an interview?

Mark A. Broughton
Answered by attorney Mark A. Broughton (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Mark A. Broughton, PC
I seems to me that you made the right choice in not speaking to the investigators. Far too many times when a person speaks to the police in a situation like this, they end up giving the investigator just what he/she needs to "make" a case against the suspect, even though the suspect believes he is completely innocent. The government has until the statute of limitations runs within which to file charges or they are forever barred from doing so. So, without your statement they would need enough other evidence of a crime in order to file charges and/or arrest you. They could develop this at any time within the statute of limitations period, so there is no telling whether charges will be forthcoming or not.

What federal criminal charges am I facing for purchasing novelty IDs?

Seth J Bloom
Answered by attorney Seth J Bloom (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Bloom Legal LLC
In Louisiana this crime is referred to as 'Unlawful production, manufacturing, distribution, or possession of fraudulent documents for identification purposes'. The penalties for possession are less strict than those for production, manufacturing, and distribution but are still: Fines of up to $500 and/or jail time of up to 6 months. It may be possible for you to negotiate a deal for reduced charges and/or sentencing with prosecutors in return for identifying the source of the IDs. Every case is different though, and before agreeing to any sort of deal or plea you should consult with a local criminal defense attorney who will be able to advise you of the potential advantages or pitfalls. If you are seeking legal representation in this matter in Louisiana, we invite you to contact our firm at the information on this page for a free case evaluation.

What will happen to my son if he's on court probation and bench warrant issued?

default-avatar
Answered by attorney James Elliot McIntosh (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Law Offices of James Elliot McIntosh
The answer depends on what type of probation he has and the reason for the warrant. If he does not have a new crime, the punishment is not as severe. If he has a sentence with execution suspended, then he already signed for the stated punishment.
