You will have to contact an attorney in NY to determine whether or not (s)he can handle the matter without you being in court. The laws vary from state to state as to what an attorney can and cannot do.

Did your nephew plead guilty? IF yes, did he negotiate the plea? IF yes, then there is nothing to appeal. IF either is NO, then you may withdraw your plea with the assistance of an attorney.

Missed my court date for open container of alcohol, can I go from USA to Canada for the weekend without trouble at border?

Canada can be very hard to get into with an open case let alone a bench warrant for your arrest (which is what you likely have). I suggest you go to court and deal with the case first. You can hire a lawyer to appear for you. I do this all the time.
