What are my chances of possession of controlled substance being dismissed?

Sounds like you should not be charged for possession of a drug your friend left in the car. Hopefully, a blood draw was taken by you or the police to verify if you were under the influence of the drug found in your car. Get the affidavit to your attorney and make sure the person who's drugs they were are subpoenaed for the preliminary hearing. Hope this helps.

Was search done legally if there was no search warrant?

Your question requires an attorney consultation. It is not a simple question that can be answered on this type of forum. There are many factors that would need to be considered and evaluated. The short answer is maybe, maybe not. The legality of the search will depend on a number of factors. I strongly suggest that you contact an experienced criminal defense attorney for a face-to-face consultation and give him/her all of the facts surrounding your arrest. (S)he would then be in a better position to analyze your case and advise you of your options. If you cannot afford an attorney, ask the judge to appoint the public defender's office to represent you. Under no circumstances should you talk to the police or anyone else about your situation without an attorney present.

What is an easy way to get a 1st offense petty theft charge removed from my record?

The easy way is to hire an attorney to have the offense expunged. The affordable way is to file the petition yourself. The petition is not very difficult, it only gets difficult if the DA wants a hearing on the matter. Find an attorney who will give you a free consultation to review your options.
