This firm will gladly say whatever they need to say to get you to pay the retainer fee but once that money is in their hands they no longer care about your case. They will automatically bill any card on file. They will bill you for every little thing but accomplish nothing. This firm wasted my time and money.

2 years ago I became a customer of Mcllveen Law Firm. I chose them only because of the customer reviews. I was severely misled. I am a Father and prior Military Combat Veteran, minister, already I seem to be at a disadvantage because of these things. For some reason NC Courts and this law firm enjoy leaching off people such as me. I filed multiple contempt orders against my ex, I have made multiple travel arrangements for court dates again only to be let down with the court or attorney cancelling it a day early. I am told the day before court. Reasons, they are busy or there is a chance of snow. Zero snow in the whole state!!! When I send emails the average response time is 1 month. When I make calls, my attorney is always busy and follows up 1 month later. I have had 2 attorneys in 2 years with this law firm. The other attorney left. Every email for them to read is almost a hundred dollars. Overpriced and a scam. The system only protects women, Fathers it is what it is. 15k + wasted.

Hired Law Firm

I filed a Bar complaint. They’re expensive and dishonest. NO REFUNDS even if retainer isn’t exhausted. I signed 3 contracts for $6,500, $3,500 and $2,500. They keep poor records. They overcharged me and refused to explain. My lawyer came to court once and asked to withdraw, then left the firm. I asked for a new lawyer. They refused. I filed a dispute with my bank. They offered to refund me but demanded I remove my negative postings against them online. I did. They still didn’t refund me.

Hired Law Firm

Came to court without the paralegal with whom knew my case inside out. Didn’t present the plethora of evidence I meticulously compiled. Did not prep me or my witnesses for the stand. Did not stand up for my children. I do not feel I was represented well and was charged over $60,000 and still lost primary custody of my kids. Hired him a second time, thinking the first go round was a fluke....ended up paying 5 times more than have to per NC guidelines. Confused and bankrupt.

Dan is the worst by far. Trust me, find another firm. you will get plenty of bills but good luck getting a call or email and forget about getting any results. they tried to serve my wife with divorce papers to the wrong address 4 months ago. i told them but they never fixed it. Shes still not been served but the bills keep coming!!!

Steer clear of this firm. Dishonest, disappointing, and completely unprofessional. Quoted $1,500 for a simple divorce. Paid over $8,000. In return? McIlveen Family Law grossly overcharged me—padding invoices with vague, duplicative, and clerical entries disguised as legal work - it’s all part of the experience. They couldn’t even get the retirement plan name right on the QDRO. You’d think accuracy matters when splitting assets. Apparently not. Now I’m fixing their errors and footing the bill. Bar complaint filed. Small claims court? That’s next. Save yourself the time, stress, and money—look elsewhere.

Do not waste your time. This firm is negligent and will drain you of your money that will result in piss poor representation. They are not worth your time, money, or peace. I had an awful experience with this firm and if I can prevent another soul from going through what I did with this firm, I will at least have gained that through this nightmarish experience. Do your research and choose a capable lawyer at a different firm.
