What are the responsibilities of a bankruptcy attorney?

Bankruptcy lawyer at A Fresh Start
Unless you are filing a Chapter 13, your bankruptcy attorney is not responsible to ask your creditors to prove you owe money. Your bankruptcy attorney is to obtain a discharge of all debt you may owe. If you want to prove that you own your real estate free and clear and that your mortgage is no good, you will want to hire a real estate attorney.

What does medical debt affects as far as my assets are concerned?

Giovanni Orantes
Answered by attorney Giovanni Orantes (Unclaimed Profile)
Bankruptcy lawyer at Orantes Law Firm
Filing for bankruptcy protection under Chapter 7 is usually far less expensive than $5,000 to $6,000. In addition, you truly should not handle your own bankrutpcy or entrust it to non-attorneys as a simple bankruptcy can turn into a complicated case if not handled properly. In general, experienced bankruptcy attorneys tend to charge higher hourly rates than most other attorneys, which should be an indication that the bankruptcy process is not usually simpler than other legal proceedings. The bottom line is that you shouldn't skimp on an important legal process that can save you many times what it costs. As to the other questions: Medical bills are usually dischargeable like most other debts; The car that you purchased outright would likely be easy to protect under the exemption laws unless you have too much cash or other properties; Landlords will usually rent to people with a bankruptcy case in their record so long as they have already received their discharge, which may suggest that you get your petition filed and the process completed as soon as possible (it usually takes about four months to receive a discharge after the case is filed).; and As to filing electronically, it is certainly safe, but only attorneys have the login information to do it. In fact, attorneys who file more than five cases per year are *only* allowed to file electronically.

What should I do if I payed my debt but another collection firm is now saying I still owe the same money?

It is called Zombie debt. File a complaint with the Attorney General and with the Federal Trade Commission. You might also sue the collectors for unfair and deceptive practices.
