Hired Attorney Michael Burk

Very intelligent and keeps up on the latest in small businesses especially biotechnology. A great communicator with his clients and people he deal with. Fair, ethical, and honest with his clients.

I approached Mr. Burk for potential representation and was initially impressed by his knowledge, but the professionalism quickly vanished. In every interaction he bragged about his success and claimed to be more honest than other lawyers. The engagement agreement he sent was full of typos, repeated paragraphs, and missing elements. My paralegal sister and I found it laughable. When I made minor corrections, he criticized me and dismissed my suggestions, saying they were covered by his "policy." I asked why it was an issue to confirm them in writing if that was true, he didn’t respond. Before I could finish reviewing the agreement, he accused me of going "silent" and pressured me to sign and pay the retainer that same day, despite saying he’d be unavailable for two weeks. When I contacted the substitute attorney to introduce myself, Mr Burk sent a rude email and revoked his offer. His behavior was unprofessional and hostile. I’m grateful to have discovered this before hiring him.

The Client Review Rating score is determined through the aggregation of validated responses. The Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings process is the gold standard due to its objectivity and comprehensiveness. Lawyers solicited for peer reviews include both those selected by the attorney being reviewed and lawyers independently selected by Martindale-Hubbell. All reviewers are verified as attorneys through Martindale-Hubbell’s extensive attorney database. Only attorneys practicing at least three years and receiving a sufficient number of reviews from non-affiliated attorneys are eligible to receive a Rating.

What are the different Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings?*

• AV Preeminent®: The highest peer rating standard. This rating signifies that a large number of the lawyer’s peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal knowledge, communication skills and ethical standards.

• Distinguished: An excellent rating for a lawyer with some experience. This rating indicates the attorney is widely respected by their peers for high professional achievement and ethical standards.
