Henderson, Covington, Messenger, Newman & Thomas Co., L.P.A. has a longstanding, well-established practice in Youngstown, Ohio and the surrounding area. In 1999, the firm opened a second office in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area. Over the years the firm has earned a reputation for quality and integrity in its work in the legal, banking, and corporate communities. The roots of the firm date back to 1916, when it was founded by Andrew M. Henderson (now deceased).
In 1936, Andrew was joined by his son Charles P. Henderson (now deceased). In 1946, the firm became Henderson & Covington when C. A. Covington, Jr. (now deceased), and his brother, John Covington, joined the Hendersons. The years between 1946 and 1956 were years of change for the firm. Andrew Henderson died, John Covington relocated to California, and Charles P. Henderson chose a political career, serving three terms as mayor of Youngstown (1948-1953) and, for 20 years, presided over the Mahoning County Probate Court.
In 1956, Harold Stein (now deceased) and Joseph S. Donchess (now deceased) joined C. A. Covington, Jr. to form the firm of Henderson, Covington, Stein & Donchess. In 1967, James L. Messenger joined the firm as an associate, and in 1975 when Mr. Messenger was named a partner, the firm became Henderson, Covington, Stein, Donchess & Messenger. Christopher J. Newman, who joined the firm as an associate in 1974, was named a partner in 1985. Richard J. Thomas, who joined the firm as an associate in 1987, became a partner in 1991. Jerry M. Bryan, who joined the firm in 1991, became a partner in 1998.
